Church on Tap started like this... It occurred to me one day that the older I get the less true male friendships I have. I think this is fundamentally true for all men at some point during our journey. The older we get, the more entrenched we become. Little by little, the years pass. We plow ourselves into our families, our business, our routines...and time slips by. Interestingly, we start to think that we really don't need friends to lean on anymore. Men live oddly private, quiet lives and …

The purpose of our group is very simple: we discuss and analyze ideas. The word "analyze/analytical" is not a reference to syllogistic, analytical philosophy, but rather stands for those who like to analyze and critique ideas. Its a place for thinkers to connect with other thinkers! The format is also very simple: there is a brief 15 to 30 minute lecture (the shorter the better) followed by a civil conversation. We believe in organic group mingling. Not all thinkers are compatible, as thinkers …

The format of GMOT is that a group comes together, has a short round of introductions, then a presenter offers several different viewpoints on a great question of theological/philosophical/ethical substance (for 10-15 minutes), and then we open it up for lively discussion. Participants tend to vary widely in their religious affiliations (and non-affiliations) and the only ground rule of the group is "deep listening" which means we should voice our authentic opinions, but not try to cram them dow …

The community of ECKists here in our state is warm, vibrant, and diverse — full of people who have searched for truth and spiritual freedom, and discovered a renewed sense of spiritual growth through the ECK teachings. Many of us have felt a sense of "coming home again," of connecting to others who have had similar spiritual experiences, and of finally being able to talk about these experiences with others who might understand. Spiritual experience is at the heart of the ECK teachings. If any of …

As increasingly demented dictator (organizer) of this group, I have agreed to a "coup" that hanged the title from "Secularists" to "Freethinkers." I am confident that either this name will last for a year or so, or God will strike me dead for allowing it to happen. (change made January 18, 2013). If you are unhappy about it, start your own group. You are free to think. Not everyone on Whidbey Island is a religious believer. There are lots of interesting , useful, and healthful things to do on W …
